The Fool, Thresholds, and the Pause of Solstice

We’re approaching one of the most profound moments in the year—the Winter Solstice. This is one of my favorite times, a natural pause point that invites reflection, release, and renewal. When I think about time, it doesn’t feel linear. Time feels like a pendulum, swinging through cycles of expansion and contraction, action and rest.

The Solstice marks the turning of the tide, the moment when the upswing transforms into the downswing. And, more importantly, it highlights the imperceptible pause in between—the weightless, timeless space where all motion ceases.

In that suspended breath, there’s no push, no pull. No gravity. Just stillness. A moment to be.

When I meditate on this energy, the archetype that rises is The Fool. Standing on the edge of a great Threshold, eyes closed, heart open. There’s a tender, powerful beauty in The Fool’s posture—balancing between falling and flying, poised at the brink of something new. This isn’t recklessness; it's trust. It's innocence. It is magic.

As we move toward the Solstice this Saturday (December 21st at 9:19 a.m. GMT), we’re gifted that same moment of weightlessness. We rise high enough to glimpse the horizon, with just enough light to catch a vision of what is to come. The baggage of the past year loosens its grip. We stand at the edge of possibility, invited to choose our next step. Will we lean into trust and take that step forward? Or will we cling to the ledge, wondering what might have been?

This weekend, I invite you to meditate with the energy of The Fool. Let the layers of old stories, fixed perceptions, and habitual reactions gently fall away. Release what no longer serves. Remember the lightness of being unburdened. This is your chance to choose—not from fear, but from freedom.

Ask yourself:

  • If I could defy gravity, what would I set myself free to experience?
  • How can I embrace this pause to gain a higher perspective, to choose with clarity and intention?
  • What momentum am I caught in that I could consciously redirect?
  • How can I bring my inner child—the purest, most curious part of me—into this process to guide me with trust and non-judgment?

You already know how to navigate these liminal spaces. You’ve done it a thousand times, unconsciously. Now, you’re being invited to step into this process intentionally.

So, take a deep breath. Close your eyes. Let yourself feel the magic of the moment. And then, with all the innocence and wisdom of The Fool, ask yourself:

What will I choose next?
